Broadcaster Blankets

MCPS and PRS for Music license hundreds of television and radio stations, from major broadcasters, such as the BBC, ITV and Sky, to small community radio stations.

If you are a television channel or radio station making or commissioning content, such as programmes or trailers, or if you a re broadcasting content, such as programmes, adverts or trailers that include music, you will require a licence, and the most appropriate licence for you is likely to be a Broadcast Blanket licence.

For more information on Broadcast Blanket licences, which cover the use of Production Music and/or Commercial Music, please visit the PRS for Music website and check out the ‘Using Music on Radio’ or ‘Using Music on Television’ pages that can be found in the Licensing section. The following links can be used to access these:

If you are an independent television production company making your own productions for sale to the UK and/or international broadcasters, or VOD streaming services such as Amazon and Netflix, please see the Content for Television section.

If you are making a television production for or on behalf of a UK broadcaster it is always recommended to check with that broadcaster to see if they hold an MCPS -PRS Broadcaster Blanket licence, and if so, whether the specific nature and details of the production you are working on falls under their blanket licence in terms of the rights required for its UK primary broadcast and/or its worldwide distribution.
